ExitLag Review: Is It Safe, Can It Get You Banned, and Is It Worth $9.99 a Month?

By the FPSBooster.org editors · Updated October 22, 2026 · Checked Windows installer 5.23.3 · Research-based review: we inspected the installer and ExitLag's terms; we have not published our own ping or FPS measurements.

The short answer

ExitLag is a legitimate paid service from an established company, and its Windows installer is properly signed — it is not malware. It sends your game traffic over its own server network to find a better route to the game server, which can lower ping and packet loss when your internet provider's routing is the problem. It cannot fix distance to the server, weak Wi-Fi or a slow PC. ExitLag says it does not cause bans because it doesn't modify game files, but its own terms say it is not liable for game account bans, and it is closed source. Plans cost $9.99 a month, $24.98 every 3 months or $75 a year for one player, with a 3-day free trial and a 7-day refund window for first-time subscribers only. Use the trial to compare ping with it on and off before paying.

What is ExitLag?

ExitLag is a subscription app that changes the path your game traffic takes to the game server. Instead of following your internet provider's default route, traffic for supported games goes through ExitLag's servers, and the app picks the route with the lowest latency — and can send the same data over several routes at once to reduce packet loss. ExitLag says it supports more than 4,000 games and apps and runs more than 1,500 servers.

ExitLag describes itself as "not a traditional VPN": it only routes game traffic, and its terms forbid using it for downloads or as a proxy to hide your connection. The app also bundles extras: a network analyzer, a "Multi-Internet" mode that switches between connections, a traffic shaper that limits bandwidth for other apps, and a "Performance Boost" that frees RAM. According to Brazilian business press, the service has run on PC since 2010.

Is ExitLag safe?

We downloaded the Windows installer from ExitLag's own download link on October 22, 2026 and inspected it without running it:

So by the usual checks, ExitLag is safe to install. The risks are about money (auto-renewal) and game rules (below), not malware.

Download only from exitlag.com. Search results for ExitLag include "cracked" and "free premium" downloads; those are not from the developer and are a common way to spread malware. If you have the same version, compare the file's SHA-256 with the value above (Get-FileHash .\SetupExitLag-5.23.3-x64.exe in PowerShell).

Can ExitLag get you banned?

ExitLag's FAQ says it "does not cause bans or penalties within games, as it does not modify any game files on your computer." That is consistent with how it works: it changes the network route, not the game. We found no game publisher statement that bans ExitLag, and no clear pattern of ban reports in its public reviews.

Two caveats are worth knowing before you use it in ranked or competitive games:

Does ExitLag actually reduce ping — or increase FPS?

Ping: it can, in one specific situation — when your provider sends game traffic on a poor or congested route. Then a better route through ExitLag's network can lower ping, jitter and packet loss. It can't beat physics: if the game server is far away, the route can only be so short. It also can't fix weak Wi-Fi, an overloaded home network or a slow connection; ExitLag's own terms say the service needs a "minimum and stable connection." We have not measured it ourselves, so we won't quote a number. Reviews range from big improvements in specific games to no change or higher ping.

FPS: ExitLag's site says "More performance and more FPS!" for its Performance Boost, which frees up RAM. Freeing RAM only helps if your PC is actually running out of memory while you play; on most gaming PCs it makes little or no difference to frame rate. ExitLag is a network tool. If your problem is low FPS rather than lag, start with our low FPS checklist.

The best way to know: use the 3-day trial, play the same game on the same server at the same time of day, and compare the in-game ping and packet loss with ExitLag on and off.

Is ExitLag legit, or a scam?

It is legit: a long-running company with a signed app, public leadership and a working free trial. The complaints are mostly about billing, not the software. On Trustpilot, ExitLag had a 3.5 rating from 603 reviews on October 22, 2026, with 51% five-star and 37% one-star reviews. The most common one-star complaints are being charged again after cancelling or at renewal, refunds being refused or slow, and no improvement in ping. Most praise is about lower ping and fewer disconnects in specific games. ExitLag replies to most negative reviews.

Other paid ping reducers work in a similar way; whichever you try, use the free trial and measure. For FPS rather than ping, see our FPS booster guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is ExitLag a VPN?

Not in the usual sense. ExitLag routes only the traffic of supported games through its own servers to find a faster path; it does not hide your browsing, and its terms forbid using it as a proxy or for downloads. Some games treat any traffic rerouting like a VPN, so check the game's rules.

Is ExitLag free?

No. New users get a 3-day free trial with no credit card required. After that, a plan for one player costs $9.99 a month, $24.98 every three months or $75 a year.

Does ExitLag increase FPS?

Not meaningfully. ExitLag is a network tool for ping and packet loss. Its Performance Boost frees RAM, which only helps if your PC runs out of memory while gaming. For low frame rates, check your GPU, drivers, settings and thermals instead.

Can I use ExitLag on two PCs?

Not at the same time. ExitLag's terms limit each account to one computer, and sharing or renting accounts is prohibited.

Does ExitLag work on Mac, PS5 or Xbox?

ExitLag lists Windows, Android and iOS. It does not list a macOS, PlayStation or Xbox app.

Can I get a refund from ExitLag?

Only in limited cases. First-time subscribers have a 7-day cooling-off period. Renewals, partial periods and purchases made with cryptocurrency, Russian SBP, Perfect Money or P2P cards are not refundable, and refunds for poor performance on your connection are excluded.
